Probiotics + Why Your Baby Needs Them!

This post is sponsored by Evivo, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

If there’s anything I’ve learned after having five babies, it's that you’re always learning, that you’ll always be surprised, and that you will always do whatever it takes to give the best to your baby. All of my babies have struggled to some degree with reflux - some were what I call “happy spitters”, and some were not happy. With my fourth baby, I used reflux medication to try and help because she was so miserable! I was willing to try anything to help give my baby relief. I even cut out all caffeine, dairy, pork, spicy foods, and greasy foods. This time around, I was relieved to learn that there was more I could do to support my baby’s developing gut health! The first 6 months are critical for proper immune and metabolic development. The type of bacteria in baby’s gut highly influences how that development takes place. Too much bad bacteria in the gut early in life is linked to an increased rate of diaper rash, colic, eczema, and allergies. I was so excited to learn about Evivo baby probiotics, which has a proprietary strain of good bacteria, B. infantis EVC001. This good bacteria limits the growth of bad bacteria in baby’s gut, helping ensure proper immune system development as a foundation for lifelong health! SIGNS OF “BAD BACTERIA” There are some signs of “bad bacteria” that we’ve come to accept as “normal” - or at least that’s what I thought!!

  • Diaper Rash

  • Colic

  • Gassy

  • Excessive fussiness

  • Eczema

  • Sleep problems

  • Watery, frequent poops

  • Antibiotic Resistance

Things that can increase the likelihood of “bad bacteria” in baby’s gut are delivery by cesarean or antibiotics while pregnant - these are things that can be necessary and natural and a perfect part of pregnancy and delivery! And some babies just need a little extra gut support - so fortunately there are steps to take (like probiotics!) to help your baby get to a place where they have a healthy gut and healthy immune system!

You can read more about each of these warning signs HERE - for me, the ones that I saw in my little guy were gassiness and watery, frequent poops! Fortunately, his spit up doesn’t cause him to be fussy, but of course I’d love him to spit up less!

I decided I wanted to give probiotics a try, specifically, in the first 6 months of my little guy’s life to help his developing gut microbiome! Probiotics help support proper gut health! It’s a win in my book! BUT, it’s important to pick the RIGHT probiotic. After lots of researching, Evivo was the clear winner!

It’s easy to administer - I simply mix some of my breast milk with a packet of the probiotics, and slowly feed to baby with a syringe! My little guy took it all without any fuss! *B. infantis EVC001 out-performs other commercially-available B. infantis strains lacking important functions of the H5 cluster

I’m so grateful that there are ways to support my baby and set him up for proper gut health! If you want to try Evivo for your baby, you can use the code BLOGJ36HW2 for $10 off your one month Evivo starter kit , or BLOG87CB94 for $20 of your two month or greater Evivo starter kit!
